This video was primarily created to promote Matt Drange’s “How Business Connections And Political Ties Helped Launch Trump’s Newest Line Of Hotels,” a story collaboratively reported by Forbes and ProPublica, on social media.
Provided with a script for the video, I pitched an idea that used a Monopoly board, as well as the game’s money, deeds, and cards, as the vehicle for the narrative to unfold. Co-opting those aesthetics (as well as adding a few Trumpian “easter eggs” across the board) made for a appealing, bite-sized gateway from social into the story.
